Chile Line Media Presents: The Way We Carry Water
Join us at the Wildflower Playhouse in Taos for a special four-night screening series of The Way We Carry Water, a short film by New Mexico filmmaker Makaio Frazier. Filmed across four seasons in the valleys and acequia communities of northern New Mexico, the film follows Marcos, a young man grappling with the sudden loss of his grandfather while taking on the responsibility of preserving his family’s acequia — a centuries-old irrigation system that sustains both the land and the traditions tied to it.
Rooted in the heritage and rhythms of northern New Mexico, The Way We Carry Water is a deeply personal reflection on family, grief, and the enduring relationship between people and place. The film’s seasonal structure mirrors cycles of nature, loss, and renewal, capturing the beauty, labor, and quiet spirituality that define life along the acequias.
Each screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker and select cast and crew, offering insight into the making of the film and its connection to local culture. Opening night will feature a special community dinner and panel discussion centered on storytelling, land, and tradition in northern New Mexico.

Sleepwalking through the day and drowning out the people who love him most, Finn struggles to come up with his next bestselling idea while believing words are all he has left. Nearly as lost as her husband, Josie desperately fights to keep the family afloat as their home weathers the storm. Caught between wanting to know and wanting to help, she busies herself with looking after the garden, their pseudo-adopted teenager, and reorganizing boxes that hold past memories. Left wondering what happened to her brothers the night of the accident, Lily pushes Finn too far as she demands answers no one can seem to give.
