Chile Line Media Presents: The Way We Carry Water

Join us at the Wildflower Playhouse in Taos for a special four-night screening series of The Way We Carry Water, a short film by New Mexico filmmaker Makaio Frazier. Filmed across four seasons in the valleys and acequia communities of northern New Mexico, the film follows Marcos, a young man grappling with the sudden loss of his grandfather while taking on the responsibility of preserving his family’s acequia — a centuries-old irrigation system that sustains both the land and the traditions tied to it.

Rooted in the heritage and rhythms of northern New Mexico, The Way We Carry Water is a deeply personal reflection on family, grief, and the enduring relationship between people and place. The film’s seasonal structure mirrors cycles of nature, loss, and renewal, capturing the beauty, labor, and quiet spirituality that define life along the acequias.

Each screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker and select cast and crew, offering insight into the making of the film and its connection to local culture. Opening night will feature a special community dinner and panel discussion centered on storytelling, land, and tradition in northern New Mexico.

Obsessed is a one woman show documenting one girl's initiation into womanhood. Starring Monica Marrocco, the show weaves together comical and emotional scenework, Monica's original songs, and mythological stories. The show will shine light on what remains unspoken in our culture; showcasing the neuroses that arise from a disconnected world. It challenges the narratives that keep women from being able to actually love themselves and be who they are meant to be. Nancy Ryan, poet and radio personality, was a hidden treasure of Taos. For many years she hosted the radio show Womenspeakon KCEI-FM, interviewing women activists and workers in thearts.  In 2010 she published The Scattering Depth, a collection of her poetry illustrated by Theresa Gray.

As her eyesight failed, she invited her poet friends to help edit her work and to read it at public gatherings.  The present reading represents the fulfillment of Nancy's wish for one more performance of her work by her fellow poets. She also planned to help organize a fundraiser for Cultural Energy/KCEI-FM. Tonight's event brings these two purposes to fruition.

Playwriting & Theatrical Storytelling Workshop

Playwriting & Theatrical Storytelling Workshop

Facilitated by Joseph Sarosy, author of How to Tell Stories to Children (21 languages), this workshop will bring children and adults together (ages 12-99) to develop storytelling and playwriting skills and bring a story of your choosing to life.

Participants will have an opportunity to see how story operates in a human being, within each other as a group, and ideally within themselves. Rather than being captivated by a story (or held captive), we will learn to interact with a story, influence it, and see ourselves in it as we grow and shift.
