Community Craft Night
Making Rain-Themed Costumes, Props & Decor in Gear Up for the September 26 Walking Parade @ Rio Fernando Park
Rain on our Parade
BIO
My name is Arielle Reyna, and I'm a writer, artist, and wild woman living in Taos, New Mexico. I am dedicated to magic, which, to me, is slowing down and paying attention to the small wonders around us. As a rites guide, I am deeply informed by nature and the myths we make with the land. As a writer/artist/performer, I love to find the silly and deep ways to consider our humanity and our relationship to the more-than-human. I live for and by and with water, the mother of all.
ABOUT EVENT
RAIN ON OUR PARADE is a communal celebration in gratitude for the live-giving rains and waterways that sustain us. Part party and part prayer/ritual, this 0.5-mile walking parade — full of music, games, storytelling, land connection, and many chances to dance — brings folx of all backgrounds together at the Taos Land Trust’s Rio Fernando Wetlands Park (TAOS, NM) on Saturday afternoon, September 26.
The two-hour event will feature an opening blessing, a brass band to “rain dance” us along, plus small performances at different stops along the way. We will end with a “give back” to TLT, an act of community service in gratitude for the space, such as weeding thistles or painting the structure around the horno.
With weekly community costuming craft nights at Inspire Roots Schoolhouse all through September leading up to the event, this is truly a communal coming-together in creativity and joy as a way to honor the water that connects us all.
Participation for precipitation, y’all!!!
