Windows + Love Stories
Some travels in Southeast Asia
ON VIEW IN THE GALLERY APRIL 14 - MAY 25
ARTIST RECEPTION
Fri, May 1, 4:30pm - 6:30pm
Windows + Love Stories by Serít deLopaz Kotowski consists of 21 giclee images from an original handmade book of paintings and drawings with prose naratives done while traveling in Southeast Asia and Baja Sur. There is also a preamble story of how she got to this particular place. She had always and continues to travel in order to collect images and stories. This storybook/notebook is an armchair look into a small part of the life of an artist.
ARTIST STATEMENT
She carried a tapestry bag purchased in Phuket. In the bag was a satchel with torn sheets of paper, India ink, tubes of egg tempera, two brushes and some sticks.
After 5 years logging 13,000 sea miles on a gaff rigged ketch called L'escargot, she spent a short spell in New Orleans with a return ticket. That return ticket and a cash bonus from the ship yard was burning a hole in her pocket.
Windows and Love Stories is a wink into wondering around in Southeast Asia.
The window is a vignette and the stories were evoked several years later while spending months on a beach in the Baja.
Some of it is about the actual memory, as I recall.
And some is the feeling behind and inside the lines, washes and tiny pieces of color.
