Playwriting & Theatrical Storytelling Workshop
Facilitated by Joseph Sarosy, author of How to Tell Stories to Children (21 languages), this workshop will bring children and adults together (ages 12-99) to develop storytelling and playwriting skills and bring a story of your choosing to life.
Rather than isolate people in peer groups and generational idiosyncrasies, we're going to purposefully bridge those differences to create a learning and growth environment that is non-hierarchical and mutually instructive.
What is a question or problem or just a palpable moment you face in life? Utilizing character and role-playing skills, and a good bit of fun, we're going to tease apart our own mindset to create a fecund opportunity to watch participants recapitulate their essential question or problem as a story with characters. Sarosy, a skilled storyteller, teacher, and goofball will guide this process, allowing participants a chance to share your story as it develops, get feedback and encouragement, laugh with it, cry with it, stage it with actors and roles, and then shift and grow by watching the story play out in the eyes, ears, and reactions of those present. This takes ferocity and excellent digestion. Good humor.
Participants will have an opportunity to see how story operates in a human being, within each other as a group, and ideally within themselves. Rather than being captivated by a story (or held captive), we will learn to interact with a story, influence it, and see ourselves in it as we grow and shift.
