A Piece of Monologue—A Samuel Beckett Experience
35-minute, one-man show based on Samuel Beckett’s piece about a 90-year old man reflecting on life and death.
Longtime Taoseño Steve Rose will be performing a one-man show at Wildflower Playhouse in March, based on a short prose piece by Samuel Beckett called A Piece of Monologue. A 35-minute play that he wrote in 1976, the monologue is a typical Beckett tour de force—profoundly human—a story about a 90-year old man who is making his final journey through a typical Irish village before his death.
As The New York Times describes it: “…[A Piece of Monologue] distillation of Beckett. It is a dead‐of-the-night soliloquy, an elegy to the brevity of life and the proximity of death.”
Seasoned actor and director Cynthia Straus arrived February 1 and is directing the piece. Her credits are long for both stage and film/ television, and she will be lending her creative vision to Beckett’s work.
